2024 - 2025

As part of the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics infrastructure, FES Global Group carried out advanced industrial waterproofing and concrete repair services at the Olympic Village in Milan, Italy. The project involved the restoration and waterproofing of four reinforced-concrete firefighting tanks, located on the first floor of the main building, designed to serve critical safety functions during the Olympic Games.

Due to active water leaks, FES implemented a certified waterproofing system combining hydro-expansive polyurethane resins and crystalline cementitious mortars, ensuring long-term structural protection and compliance with the stringent standards required for Olympic facilities.

Project phases

1. Emergency sealing: hydro-expansive resin injection

To stop active leaks and secure the area, our team applied an elastic, single-component hydro-expansive polyurethane resin, ideal for targeted waterproofing interventions on concrete structures exposed to high-pressure infiltration.

2. Structural rehabilitation and permanent waterproofing

After the initial resin injection, FES carried out a comprehensive structural waterproofing intervention, applying a sequence of crystalline and consolidating materials designed to restore and permanently protect the reinforced concrete.

  • Crystalline cementitious mortar – ultra-fast setting
A high-performance mortar specifically formulated for the immediate sealing of cracks and joints. Its rapid setting time and volumetric stability make it ideal for emergency structural waterproofing applications.
  • Crystalline structural repair mortar – fibre-reinforced and thixotropic
A high-strength, fibre-reinforced thixotropic mortar used to restore degraded concrete elements. Thanks to its needle-shaped crystalline formation, it seals pores and micro-capillaries within the concrete, protecting it from water ingress, chemical attack, and environmental exposure.
  • Crystalline waterproofing slurry – deep-penetrating and self-healing
The active components of the slurry penetrate deeply into the concrete matrix, generating insoluble crystals that permanently seal capillary porosity. This self-healing crystalline technology reactivates in the presence of new moisture, providing long-term protection and durability even under variable environmental conditions.

Our services

Waterproofing interventions protect structures from infiltration and moisture, preserving concrete and ensuring greater durability. Different techniques and materials are used depending on the type of structure and the surrounding environmental conditions.

Spray-applied polyurea provides immediate waterproofing, drying to the touch in just 10 seconds and allowing foot traffic after only 90 minutes. Thanks to its resistance to weathering, UV rays, and thermal shock, polyurea is now one of the most reliable solutions for the waterproofing of industrial roofs.

Results

The intervention ensured complete waterproofing and restoration of the Olympic Village firefighting tanks, improving safety, durability, and efficiency ahead of the Milano-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. FES’s certified industrial waterproofing services demonstrated the company’s technical expertise and reliability in large-scale international projects.

Today, the Olympic Village structures stand as a reference project in Europe for structural waterproofing and concrete repair, highlighting FES’s capacity to deliver advanced engineering solutions for major event infrastructures worldwide.
