In July 2025, FES Global Group carried out a large-scale polyurea roof waterproofing project in Como for Ghioldi S.r.l., a leading company in the Italian textile industry.
The existing bituminous membrane on the industrial roof showed defects and risked infiltration. By applying a complete system with primer, spray-applied polyurea, and protective topcoat, we turned a 2,670 m² roof into a waterproof, safe, and durable surface.
Safety and site organisation
The project was executed at height, with a dedicated team of 5 specialised workers per day. Safety on site was guaranteed through:
installation of guardrails and anti-fall protection systems;
clear delimitation of the working areas;
protective sheeting of adjacent zones to prevent polyurea overspray;
strict control of space and logistics during application.
Work phases
1. Surface preparation
Repair of damaged areas and sealing of cracks with specific waterproofing sealants. One of the advantages of polyurea roof waterproofing is that it can be applied directly onto existing bituminous membranes, avoiding costly disposal.
2. High-pressure power washing
Thorough cleaning to remove dust and impurities, ensuring proper adhesion of the protective system.
2. Moisture vents installation
Special vents were installed to allow trapped humidity to evaporate, preventing damage beneath the new waterproofing layer.
4. Application of the polyurea system
Primer applied mainly with a roller (to minimise product dispersion in outdoor conditions), followed by spray-applied polyurea coating, known for its extreme resistance to UV rays, temperature variations, and weathering.
5. Protective topcoat finish
A coloured RAL topcoat was applied within 24 hours to protect the polyurea from natural yellowing and to ensure a uniform, durable aesthetic.
The waterproofing of the entire 2,670 m² roof was carefully organised into progressive phases. Instead of treating the whole surface in a single application, the FES team divided the roof into smaller sections, applying primer, polyurea, and finishing coat step by step. This methodology ensured a homogeneous and long-lasting result, with no compromise on the quality and performance of the treatment.
