2025

In May 2025, FES Global Group carried out an extraordinary maintenance project on the railway bridge over the Po River at Bressana-Bottarone, a strategic infrastructure along the Milan–Genoa railway line. The project involved specialised surface treatments and the protection of steel structures to ensure long-term durability and resistance over time.

The intervention formed part of a wider programme for the renewal and safety upgrade of railway infrastructure promoted under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

The works concerned a large-scale structure featuring a double-track steel truss bridge with an overall length of 764 metres. Operations were carried out using scaffolding installed along the sides of the bridge. Access to areas not served by scaffolding was provided from inside the bridge by means of a dedicated night-time rail vehicle.

Project phases

1. Surface Preparation

Execution of abrasive blasting on metal surfaces to completely remove oxides, impurities, and contaminants, ensuring the substrate is fully prepared for painting and subsequent protective treatments.

2. Application of Protective Coatings

Application of protective coating and anti-corrosion treatments, carried out according to technical cycles suited to the operating conditions of the structure and the required quality standards.

3. Targeted Maintenance of Deteriorated Areas

Interventions on the most compromised sections of the structure to restore operational conditions and maintain structural integrity.

4. Quality Control

All surface treatment phases are conducted in strict compliance with technical and quality standards for railway infrastructure, guaranteeing a durable protection cycle aligned with the performance requirements expected for this type of project.

Our services

Mechanical cleaning of surfaces using compressed-air abrasives to remove rust, scale, old paint, and impurities, creating a rough profile optimal for coating adhesion.

Applied treatments prevent material degradation caused by chemical and atmospheric agents. These protective coatings extend the life and functionality of steel surfaces, forming a barrier against oxidation and aggressive substances.
