Cartiera Mantovana
Mantua, Italy
FES Global Group was commissioned to provide comprehensive passive fire protection on six industrial buildings at Cartiera Mantovana, a italian leading paper manufacturing company.
The project aimed to achieve various fire resistance ratings (REI60 and REI90) in compliance with European fire safety regulations, tailored to the structural characteristics of each building.
Types of structures and applied treatments
The intervention involved diverse structural typologies. For each building, FES selected the most suitable fire protection system, alternating between cementitious fireproofing and intumescent coatings depending on the materials and intended use of the structures.
Project phases
1. Surface preparation and cleaning
Prior to applying the protective coatings, FES carried out thorough cleaning of all surfaces using high-pressure washing.
This step ensures the removal of dust, residues, and impurities that could compromise the adhesion of fireproof materials.
2. Application of fire protection systems
Depending on the structural requirements, two different systems were applied:
- Cementitious fireproofing, for reinforced concrete structures and prefabricated lattice roofs.
- Intumescent coatings, for main steel beams and metallic structural components.
Both systems were applied according to the required fire resistance classes (REI60 and REI90), with controlled thicknesses and on-site inspections to ensure compliance with technical datasheets.
Provided services
Our fireproofing solutions enhance the safety of industrial buildings by preserving structural stability and slowing heat propagation in the event of a fire.
Cementitious fireproofing provides high-density protective layers for concrete and load-bearing structures, increasing fire resistance and preventing rapid heat transmission.
Intumescent coatings expand when exposed to heat, forming an insulating barrier that protects steel and other structural elements, in accordance with fire safety regulations applicable to industrial facilities, ports, airports, and public buildings.
Risultati
The fireproofing intervention with cementitious fireproofing and intumescent coatings ensured that all buildings met European fire safety standards, enhancing structural integrity and durability.
FES’s technical approach allowed for:
Correct fire resistance for each structural typology
Uniform and long-lasting protection
Completion within agreed project timelines without affecting client operations
